Overview

The completion of IAMH is just the beginning of a journey towards fostering a supportive and mentally healthy workplace. Ongoing support for your mental health advocates is crucial to ensure that the skills and knowledge gained during training are effectively applied and sustained over time. Continuous support helps reinforce learning, providing opportunities to address new challenges and stay updated on best practices.

It also fosters a global community of practice, where individuals can share cross-cultural experiences, seek advice, and offer encouragement to one another. This sustained engagement not only enhances confidence and competence in providing mental health support but also promotes a culture of openness and ongoing improvement in mental wellbeing efforts.

Each of our supervision sessions are designed to develop advocates knowledge in key areas, whilst also building a peer support network based on sharing experiences, safe spaces and a desire to make a difference.

The sessions will each be focused on a key theme. The theme schedule will be designed to reflect known case studies and questions. Content can also be customised to reflect global awareness initiatives, internal known pressures/issues, and external life events/situations.

Together, we can make a positive impact and foster a healthier, happier work environment for everyone.

The supervision sessions offer valuable support to advocates. Firstly, they provide a structured environment for advocates to reflect on their experiences, challenges, and successes in their role. These sessions also offer an opportunity for advocates to receive guidance and feedback from experienced facilitators, helping them navigate complex situations and refine their skills. Additionally, supervision sessions foster a sense of community and peer support among advocates, allowing them to connect with others in similar roles, share insights, and learn from each other's experiences. Overall, supervision sessions serve as a vital resource for advocates, enhancing their confidence, competence, and overall effectiveness in supporting mental health in the workplace.

The risks of not providing support to International Advocates for Mental Health can be significant and multifaceted:
  1. Burnout: IAMHs often deal with emotionally challenging situations, which can lead to burnout if they don't receive adequate support. Without support mechanisms in place, the constant exposure to distressing situations can take a toll on their mental and emotional wellbeing.
  2. Reduced Effectiveness: Without ongoing support and guidance, IAMHs may feel ill-equipped to handle complex mental health situations effectively. This could result in missed opportunities for early intervention or inappropriate responses to crises, ultimately diminishing their effectiveness in supporting others.
  3. Legal and Ethical Concerns: Organisations have a duty of care to their employees' mental health and wellbeing. Failing to provide adequate support to IAMHs could raise legal and ethical concerns regarding duty of care obligations, potentially resulting in liability issues for the organisation.

Overall, the risks of not providing support to advocates are far-reaching and can impact both individuals and the organisation as a whole. It's essential to prioritise the wellbeing of advocates by offering comprehensive support and resources to ensure they can fulfill their roles effectively and sustainably.

Our supervision sessions are facilitated by experienced professionals who specialise in mental health support and training. They are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to guide discussions, provide feedback, and offer support to International Advocates for Mental Health during the sessions.

In our sessions, we prioritise building strong rapport and trust between International Advocates for Mental Health and their facilitators. To achieve this, we ensure that the same facilitator leads all sessions throughout the duration of the support programme. Consistency in facilitation allows for continuity of support, fostering a deeper connection and understanding between IAMH's and their facilitator. This approach enables facilitators to gain insight into the unique challenges and experiences of each advocate, providing personalised guidance and support tailored to their specific needs. By maintaining the same facilitator throughout all sessions, we aim to create a supportive and trusting environment where IAMHs feel comfortable sharing and growing in their roles.
