International Mental Health First Aid Course

Overview

Most employees spend one-third of their adult life at work and there is a high probability that many people are likely to experience a spectrum of mental health issues in the working environment. Unfortunately, research shows that the workplace is where many people feel uncomfortable talking about issues relating to their mental health.

The aim of this international mental health first aid course is to provide delegates with the awareness, strategies and support to recognise signs of an employee who may be struggling and intervene appropriately. Attending the programme will equip delegates to become truly global advocates with the insight to understand the topic of mental health, lead positive and practical conversations and signpost to resources.

The programme covers psychosocial risk awareness, work-related stressors,
boundary setting and safeguarding procedures. Above all, these advocates work
towards eradicating the stigma associated with mental health by supporting individuals both locally and virtually, encouraging open dialogues and cultivating a culture of empathy and understanding.

The IAMH mental health first aid course is suitable for those new to a role as a Mental Health Advocate or Wellbeing Ambassador, Champion or First Aider, or those seeking to build on their existing knowledge to discover how to support their global community and enhance levels of cultural intelligence and the critical nuances related mental health.

Frequently Asked Questions

The IAMH course is suitable for those new to a role as a Mental Health Advocate or Wellbeing Ambassador, Champion or First Aider, or those seeking to build on their existing knowledge to discover how to support their global community and enhance levels of cultural intelligence and the critical nuances surrounding mental health. IAMH is also perfect for those who may already be qualified as a Mental Health First Aider but needs to refresh their skills and renew their qualification.

In essence, the IAMH programme is suitable for anyone in any role, regardless of their existing qualifications. It is designed to cater to individuals from diverse professional backgrounds.

While both the IAMH programme and other mental health first aid programmes aim to promote mental health support, IAMH offers unique features that set it apart. IAMH places a strong emphasis on cultural awareness, acknowledging and incorporating non-westernised approaches to mental health. It also addresses psychosocial risk awareness and safeguarding procedures. Furthermore, IAMH provides specialised training in virtual support, ensuring individuals receive assistance regardless of their geographical location. IAMH focuses on global consistency, offering standardised support and resources across all territories rather than regionalised approaches. Additionally, IAMH incorporates global statistics to provide a comprehensive understanding of mental health challenges faced worldwide.

At IAMH, we pride ourselves on being culturally inclusive and globally consistent. That’s why our international mental health first aid course is available to be delivered in any language and in any country. Simply add the required location and language in our easy-to-use booking form, and a member of the team will be in touch. You can book your course by clicking here.

  • Learners will be trained by an IAMH instructor member, covering 16 hours of content in total.
  • They will receive a digital workbook to support their learning throughout the course.
  • On completion of the course and assessment, they will receive a digital IAMH certificate.

The IAMH course costs £275+VAT per head as standard for courses with between 8-16 learners or for public courses. This cost includes 16 hours of facilitator led training, a hard copy workbook to support learning throughout the course, a digital manual to refer to for easy access, a lanyard and wallet sized reference card with the IAMH action plan and a digital IAMH certificate. Our mental health first aid course can either be delivered in-person or online via MS Teams or Zoom.

We limit numbers to 16 people per IAMH course so that instructors can keep people safe and supported. We also have a minimum number of 8 people to allow for an interactive learning space but we pride ourselves on being flexible. If you are looking to run an IAMH course but have less than 8 delegates, please complete our booking form and a member of the team will be in touch.

Yes, to receive the assessment and certification at the end of the course, you are required to attend all four modules in their entirety.
